WILDLIFE IN CRISIS

OVER 500 WILDLIFE HOSPITALS IN THE U.K. ARE UNDER RESOURCED.

MISSING THE TARGET

In 1992, 196 countries from across the world signed up to the Convention of Biological Diversity. Two of three main goals included the conservation of biological diversity and the sustainable use of its components. In 2016 over 50 UK conservation and research organisations collaborated to bring successive reports on the State of Nature in the UK and its overseas territories. A major conclusion: “That the UK is one of the most nature deprived countries in the world.  The plan in 1992 was that we’d all work together to live more sustainably and respectfully for biological diversity by 2015. In many areas, huge progress was made – but things seem to be going backwards.

Why is this happening?

A range of factors affect the state of nature in the UK, two of the most important are agriculture and climate change.

The major impacts of changes ‘collide’ with the demand for agricultural production and climate change, which can reduce habitat and push wildlife to the extremes of their preferred habitats. Wildlife is being squeezed and this means they come into complex conflicts.

For some of our much-loved wildlife these conflicts mean that they may be lucky enough to have a second chance in life if they arrive at the door of a wildlife hospital.

ALL WILDLIFE IS CONCERNED

In the UK over 500 wildlife hospitals take in tens of thousands of wildlife casualties each year – casualties of human neglect. Most hospitals are run by passionate people, often from their own homes, relying entirely on the goodwill of caring people who may volunteer to help, make a donation or be a foster carer. Most often, as is the case, is that these passionate individuals (often volunteers) are under intense pressure to remain active and help save wildlife – they ensure that wildlife stays in the wild, that the UK does not lose its nature.

BIG JOB

We must do what we can to make a difference.

Providing rescuers with the correct medical kit, rescue equipment, training and the public with the right information is one of the most cost-effective ways to prevent further wildlife casualties. For every £1 spent on the right resources and education, more than £3 is returned through saved time, increased productivity and reduced medical costs.

Wildlife Link funds the work of The WildAid Foundation Trust: to ensure the right equipment reaches a wildlife hospital and we then can make a positive impact in the community. Your donation will be used to provide life-saving equipment, a safe wildlife release site, and a new beginning for people. This vital combination works together to bring new skills, confidence, environmental change and strength to encourage healthy lives. With better health, and motivation, people discover the potential that lies within them to bring transformation in their community. Person by person , community by community, we are linking people with wildlife. By linking your home with wildlife rescue for £20, your donation will go towards providing wildlife and education workshops When you link you will receive a framed certificate, as our thank you, which you can personalise (this makes an ideal present for someone!). Your name will also appear on our supporters map celebrating your geneoristy whilst motivating others to join.

You have an option to donate to

  • The wildlife hospital we are currently supporting,
  • a wildlife hospital we soon will be supporting
  • Our main campaign
  • The certificate also features a photo of the wildlife rescue centre or an exclusive image of wildlife from a wildlife hospital.
HOW IS £20 USED?

The funds raised through Wildlife Link are used to fund the WildAid Foundation Trust’s wildlife challenges and community education workshops. We don’t link one individual donations from Wildlife Link to one rescuer or community, as the cost of administering this would reduce how much we are able to spend on actually delivering life-saving equipment and community education workshops. With your donation, we collectively can deliver wildlife challenges to ensure that rescuers benefit the most form having the right resources and a release site. Education workshops  build people’ skills, confidence, motivation and esteem. You are changing peoples lives.

CAN I GET A REFUND?

If you have been charged twice, we will check our account and if there is more than one transaction in your name, we will refund the transaction(s) made in error. Please note: We are not generally able to refund donations, as it is against charity law.

HOW MUCH DO YOU SPEND ON ADMINISTRATION?

The WildAid Foundation Trust is managed by a part time co-ordinator. The rest is spent either directly in the field or delivering our flagship community workshops.

WHY SPEND MONEY ON CERTIFICATES?

The idea of Wildlife Link is that you display a picture of the wildlife hospital (or its logo) / the wildlife image or the habitat creation scheme, in your home, school, work place or community building – to show that you are linked. Some months, we find that our donations come from people who say they’ve seen a certificate in someone else’s property. So initially it may not seem beneficial to spend money on providing photos, but in the long run we have found that it generates a lot more support, and so we can invest in wildlife rescue and building people’s lives.

"It's all about encouraging people to participate and learn about the natural world through hands on discovery."
