Feet in the clouds

On July 30th our own WildAid Charlie navigated his way from Dalemain through to Coniston, along trails and across fells, to successfully complete an ultra distance 50 mile challenge, with a climbing ascent compared to 3 times up Ben Nevis, in the Lake District National Park.

Participating with some 800 other competitors Charlie completed the course in 10 hours and 18 seconds finishing in a commendable 49th position.  Through generous sponsorship the challenge raised £340.00 for WildAid.

Charlie said ' I had never run any further than a marathon some years before so this was a whole new ball game and beacuse it was across fells in the beautiful Lake District National Park the challenge was so much more inviting.'  The endurance really punches into your physical, mental and emotional being. The atmosphere was quite amazing. Descending from the fell side into Coniston i was quite relieved to approach the finish, but i secretly didn't want it to end.'

'I lost around 15-20 minutes trying to stave off an agonising cramp around 45 miles, but it was the comeradary of passing runners and the support of event staff and volunteers that push you on.  I woudl like to congratulate everyone who participated and all event staff and volunteers for making a very memorable weekend.'  I would also like to thank everyone who generously supported my challenge. WildAid will be running a 6 week wildlife education program with a special school near Morecambe with the sponsorship and so providing sessions that the children would normally not receive.

Geek alert:  Total miles trained 760 including the 50 mile race.

Will i race again?  My fell shoes are already on.

"It's all about encouraging people to participate and learn about the natural world through hands on discovery."
